SLAX -- это самозагружаемый CD, на котором установлена операционная система Линукс. Работает прямо с диска, без предварительной установки на жёсткий диск. Основан на программном обеспечении Slackware Linux.
 Представьте, что у вас есть возможность загрузить ваш любимый Линукс, где вы только захотите: дома, в школе, в интернет-кафе или на работе, вне зависимости на установленную ОС, установленную на компьютере. Представьте, что вы идёте по улице и несёте в кармане единственную вещь, нужную вам в жизни, -- 8-см SLAX CD. Хотите почувствовать это? The future of Slax 6 1) Squashfs is going to support bigger block sizes, up to 1MB, so the compression of Slax will be even better in the future. (may provide 20MB!) 2) Slax sponsored 'posixovl' filesystem so slaxsave.dat file should be deprecated in the future, as the changes will be directly saved to the VFAT filesystem, while preserving all the Linux attributes/permissions/ownerships. 3) AUFS now reports some interesting info if a busy module is to be removed, so it should be easier (and safer) to remove Slax modules on the fly in the future. For now, if the module is not safe to be removed, it's unremovable. 4) New web is still in progress. Please be patient. I understand it takes too long, but better be late then sorry. 5) I will maybe wait for KDE 4 for Slax6 final. I don't know yet, but other technologies (eg. squashfs, lzma) are envolving right now so it may be better to wait anyway. Slax 6 rc5 still includes Linux Kernel 2.6.21.5 and KDE 3.5.7 - The Slackware base has been upgraded to Slackware 12.0 - Klaptopdaemon has been recompiled in order to show the tray icon properly - Slax now shutdowns properly, while it did reboot instead of shutdown in rc4. - Removal of modules by using Slax Module Manager is fixed, it did allow a busy aufs branch to be removed in rc4, which may cause troubles. Now it simply doesn't allow to remove the busy module. Next version should have a functionality to remove the module safely, even if it is busy.
